Graduation Success!!

There are times in life where reality and festive come together. Such a night was had at the Haydn Proctor Inn of Court Commencement Ceremony and Dinner, on June 1, 2011, at the Oyster Point Hotel, in Red Bank.                           We were fortunate to have the key note address presented by The Honorable Stuart J. Rabner, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New Jersey, to have the attendance of numerous Judges of the Superior Court of New Jersey; both Appellate and Trial Division but most importantly by our Graduates and family members. All told we had one hundred and thirty one attendees, along with family members of Justice Daniel J. O’Hearn.                           Chief Justice Rabner initiated the evening on a perfect note, at a time when we were honoring those, most of whom were in the exciting time of the infancy of their careers. Mr. Justice Rabner directed their attention to matters outside the statutes, rules, precedents and formality of the law. He opined about those qualities which can make the practice rise above other professions; such as civility, politeness, honesty, integrity and the ability to “break bread” with your most bitter adversary once the battle ends. His words echoed what my parents always told me was a rule to live by; “Do the right thing”.                           Also honored was Robert Abrams, Esq. with the Daniel J. O’Hearn Award for Professionalism. To those of us who knew Justice O’Hearn his existence was composed of intelligence, down to earth niceness and love of family along with an all consuming honesty. Bob fit the mold perfectly.                           Kelly Day, Esq. was also awarded with the Distinguished Associate Scholarship, which gives Kelly a year’s free tuition to the next session of the Inn’s of Court.                           There are many thanks to be passed around but mainly to the Honorable Bette E. Uhrmacher, J.S.C. (Ret) and Paul E. Newell, Esq.  I would also be remiss not to say thank you to Renee’ Altshul for putting it all together.                           Also, “Thank You” to all the others who made this a spectacular two years.                           The dinner and the atmosphere were a perfect launching pad for the New Year about to start.                                                                           Philip Jacobowitz, Esq.
